Hi,

I would like to ask if the following is supported or features in SMG 10.5 and kindly share Articles or any links as a support material. I've already tried to search the forum but most of the posts were years old and closed already. 

  • Backscatter (BATV)
  • Sender Policy Framework (SPF)
  • DomainKeys Identified Mail (DKIM)
  • Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC)

We  use brightmail for Inbound and outbound mail filtering. Brightmail attempt to send a lot of mails from otherdomains.

Messaging Gateway 10.5 DNS Failover

Hi,

I need your help how to setup and configured 

The idea is to have DNS failover using having MX records. As I understand the priority weight for email routing will be configured on the DNS server.

Just in case 8360 Appliance A goes offline, the DNS server will automatically route email traffic to 8360 Appliance B and vice versa

In the event that both 8360 Appliances A/B also goes offline, the DNS server will route email traffic to the SMG - VM to be able to deliver the clean messages or emails successfully.

Block emails with blank sender, but allow specific from 1 domain

I need a solution

Hi,

I have added an email content filtering policy to block emails with blank sender. The problem is that 1 department use scan to email and these genuine mails are also held in Spam Quarantine. I would like to edit the policy in such a way that it blocks emails with blank sender, but allows those to domain mxxx.com i.e., any email with blank sender and To domain mxxx.com is not blocked. How should I proceed?

Hi Team,

Our current configurations are like this:

We have two SMG 8380 appliances and we have to public MX records for our email domain (example.com)

currently each SMG appliance configured to NAT with MX record for inbound and out bound email filtering.

i.e. SMG1 appliance eth0 IP address 192.168.1.1 natted with one of the MX record public IP (125.x.x.x) and SMG2 appliance eth0 IP address 192.168.1.2 natted another MX record public IP ( 59.x.x.x)

From exchange all outbound emails to will be delivered to both SMG devices in round robin fashion.

But here i have a concern of in-case if SMG1 appliance ISP goes down, all outbound delivered by exchange will be queued at SMG1 until that particular MX record ISP comes up.

Is there any solution for high availability configuration options in this scenario to achieve flow all the times (may be with virtual IP option in SMG). kindly suggest.

Currently we are on Gateway 10.5.4 - we are wondering if there is a way to configure the Gateway to use SmartCard for login. Is there? Is it being considered in a future release? What about LDAP sync for login?

Send Delivery Status Notification Action - explanation not visible or not send?

Hello

I have trouble enabling Status Notification Action with explanation. (SMG version 10.5.4-4, Exchange 2010 as internal mail server)

I test new Spam Policy (Outbound) with followings Actions:

  1. Prepend subject line with "[Spam test]"
  2. Send a Delivery Status Notification with explanation "Cant send a SPAM message..."
  3. Forward the message to admin_email@..."
  4. Hold message in Spam Quarantine

When I send a test SPAM message a notification is send to me, but I'm not see a explanation in this message.

How can I configure to send properly DSN mail with explanation configured?

Messaging Gateway Logging

I need a solution

I have two issues with logging on my Messaging Gateway (10.5.3-4), under Administration > Settings > Logs I have the following set:

Max log size 1600MB

Days to store before deleting 30

Expunger runs daily

Message audit logs days before deleting 45

Max logs to be retrieved 1000

Q1: When I view the dashboard - Status > System > Dashboard and check the summary set to past 30 days, it only returns the last 8 (including today).  Why is this?

Q2: Under reports, i'm trying to run an IP Connections > Top Rejected Connections report, but no matter time period I run it for, it returns no data.  I know i've had rejected connections, and I get the same issue for Top Accepted Connections, and i know i've definitely had some of those!

Hi, I was looking for opinions on DNS validation within the Symantec Messaging Gateway product.  I've recently migrated to v10.5.3-4 from an older version, and built new scanners to migrate to, rather than inplace upgrades.  I deceided to tie down the security some more on the new boxes, including enabling all four of the DNS validation rules under Protocols > SMTP > Settings.

In the first week, I had calls from various senders with issues, mostly down to their EHLO domains not being correct, many were resolved, but due to the weight of 'valid' email being bounced, I disabled this rule as it was a fairly basic and easily bypassed protection.

More recently a supplier has been being blocked by the 2nd rule - "Reject connection where the reverse DNS record exists for the connecting IP address, but the 'A' or 'AAAA' record of the resulting domain does not match the connecting IP address" - FCrDNS.  I pointed the issue out with their systems being misconfigured, but rather than the 'whoops, thanks for pointing that out', they're being rather obstructive and basically refusing to fix the problem.

As many of our staff rely on emails from this sender to operate, i've had to disable the rule while discussions continue.

My question is, am I being awkward having this rule switched on?, it seems the FCrDNS is not widely adopted, but it is a standard, and i can't see why anyone WOULDN'T conform to it, what is the community's opinion?

Can I install the Single licnese file for 2 different locations in single domain.Do share the datasheet or diffrences for the Temporary license & perpetual license details of SMG.

Hyderabad to Chennai: one Vpn tunnel

Chennai to Us: one vpn tunnel

Us to Hyderabad: one vpn tunnel

-How many locations are the Exchange servers located in?

Ans: 2 locations. 1) US> a) NEXTEMAIL01>Exchange 2010(Mailbox, ClientAccess, UnifiedMessaging, HubTransport)

b) NEXTEXMAIL02>Exchange 2013(ClientAccess)

c) NEXTEXMAIL01>Exchange 2013(Mailbox)

2) INDIA:: a)NEXTINDEMAIL01>Exchange 2013(Mailbox)

Ans: Yes. We have single domain & its: NEXTSPHERE.COM. All the Exchange servers (6Nos) are in the same domain.
-How many SMG Control center and scanners are installed in each location?

Ans: Not yet installed.
-Are the SMGs behind a firewall?

Ans: No.
-How are the Exchange servers communicating and replicating between them?

Ans:

Exchange 2010 (Nextemail01)

Exchange 2013 (Exchange 2013>Hyderabad)

Exchange 2013 (Exchange 2013>US)

NEXTINDEXDAG01 will control the replications between the Mailbox servers.

Cluster nodes: NEXTINDEXDAG01, NEXTINDEMAIL01, NEXTEXMAIL01

2nos CAS servers (NEXTINDEMAIL02, NEXTEXMAIL02) is used for users to connect their mail boxes.
-Is there a good bandwidth between the different locations?

Hello!

I have trouble checking an outbound message misidentified as spam.

This is a legitimate email (this is a response email in html, with many footers but without attachment).

I send this email marked as "This is NOT SPAM" to Symantec Security Response from Message Quarantine, but is nothing better.

How to check, what is the reason of mark this email as spam?

SMG Two different verdicts, same message - how to manage

I need a solution

Hi guys,

I have a content policy that moves a message to a quarantine incident folder based on a dictionary for a popper approval before delivery.

My problem is that messages that have more than this content verdict (such as Spam) are also being held in the incident folder.

Is there a way priories Spam deletion even when the spam has a word listed in my dictionary (for the incident folder)?

I already went through the KB below concerning the same topic but could not find my answer so far.

Errors with exceeded max time without delivery / Lost Connection

We are a Internetprovider with about 20.000 EMail-Customers. We are using Postfix on your Servers and had many times Problems to reach your Servers or get Mails from you.

I see in our Logfile this:

How to get logs or reports for Email Sent and Recieved via TLS

I need a solution

We have recently started using TLS with few organizations . when I conduct a test with them , most of them are able to provide me a log  for TLS Reception wehreas I  can only provide logs for TLS Outbound Delivery .I am not able to get a log for emails recived via TLS . I even tried to enable Debug Logs for MTA but didn't find any thing there .

SMG Version is 10.5.1-2

Any Ideas .
