SMG 10.5 - Auto Whitelist?

Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.  I am new to SMG, and am attempting to implement a solution I've used in the past with GFI called "auto whitelist".  Basically when a internal user sends an email to a customer, I would like the recipients address automatically added to the whitelist so that replies are not subject to scanning.  GFI allows the automatic creation of these lists for a certain number of addresses, then overwrites after that limit is reached. 

Is there a similar functionality in SMG?

Dear Support,

I am performing Symantec Messaging Gateway POC, where customer requirement also includes Image Filtering and image Scanner Analyzes to determine attributes that indicates that image may be if a  pornographic nature. How can we achieve this feature in Symantec Messaging Gateway.

I'd like to view all the messages in Message Audit Logs but I cannot find any wildcard/jolly character to use (in sender, recipient, subject and so on).

 

How could I do this?

Exchange Sender ID filter issues after installing Symantec Messaging Gateway

Recently installed Symantec Messaging Gateway at 2 different locations - one Exchange 2010, one Exchange 2013.  I left all Exchange filtering enabled assuming it was good to have a 2nd layer of spam filtering.

When investigating some false positives at both locations I'm finding that most are senders that are failing Exchange's built-in Sender ID check filter.  These senders were not failing this check before, and no changes were made on the Exchange side of things.  Both locations are running the latest Symantec Messaging Gateway.

Anyone have any idea on this?  Does having SMG installed as a gateway filter somehow cause senders to be more likely to fail Exchange's Sender ID check?  Should Sender ID filtering be disabled on Exchange?

Disarm: test and view logs

I need a solution

Hi all,

I've Symantec Messaging Gateway 10.5.2-3 and I'd like to test Disarm before putting it production environment.

Is there a way I could test it? I mean, I'd like to view a log reporting the fact that a file is "disarmable", the disarming process and so on.

I'd like to view, in my environment, how many messages will match the disarm policies.

Enforced TLS between us and a client - SMG 8360 version 10.5.2.3

Under Protocols > Domains > I added the client domain > Deliver tab I selected Attempt TLS encryption. Now when i send them email i get this message

 

#< #5.7.1 smtp; 550 5.7.1 Unable to relay> #SMTP#

Your message wasn't delivered due to a permission or security issue. It may have been rejected by a moderator, the address may only accept e-mail from certain senders, or another restriction may be preventing delivery.

SMG DNS issue

I need a solution

Hi ,

Need to check as there is a requirement to disable recursion on my DNS server this also disables forwarders and my SMG is unable to resolve Host A records... Will using Internet root DNS servers resolve this? Or is there another way to resolve? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

I need a solution

hi everyone,

I have a client which is ISP provider and email service provider, they want to purchase SMG as anti-spam for 240,000 email user. My question are

a. what is the best approach  SMG appliance server or Virtual edition

b. how many SMG scanner and control center?

c.if virtual what are the SPECS of SMG.

d. how do i configure the mx record? do i point mx 10 to scanner 1, mx 20 to scanner 3. or mx 10 to control center?

if you have diagram to share with multiple scanner  deplyment , i wouold really appreciate..

Messaging Gateway end-user Quarantine

Hello,

 

I have integrated Symanted Messaging Gateway with Microsoft Active Directory in order to enable end-user quarantine. 

I was able to enable the end-user quarantine globally. However, I was not able to enable it from the Policy Groups level as it is still grayed out.

 

An LDAP user now able to access the quarantine but gets an "access denied" message:

Access for your account has not been configured. Please contact your administrator for assistance.

Quarantine console and Win XP with IE

I need a solution

Hi,

I've implemented the Symantec Messaging Gateway (10.5.2-3) and I want that all my clients can connect to the Quarantine console, but Windows XP and Vista users can't do this because the TLS 1.1 and 1.2 protocolos are not supported on that OS.

Does anyone knows any solution, that do not involve to enable the 41080 port (HTTP) vía commando or install another web browser, to permit Windows XP users to connect to the Control Center (Quarantine) via Internet Explorer?

SEPM for SP client integration with MTA (Sendmail)

Hello All , Currently I am working on SMG for SP . I have inatalled Server on a diffrent Linux box while client is running on the same machine where MTA (sendmail) is running now I want to integrate MTA with client so that it can send the emails to server.

Could any 1 can please tell me the steps as how can I integrate client with MTA ? Thanks and Regards,

RegExp to filter recipients domains

I need a solution

I'd like to use content filter in order to choose a list of allowed domains and to deny all the others.

I've something like 100 domains that I want to permit: if a user send (TO, CC, BCC) an email to one or to some of those domains, ok.

If just 1 email address, inside the recipients, is different from the allowed ones, the rule should block the email.

 

I've written a working regular expression but the problem is that the regexp is limited to 255 chars.

If I write more regexp, the overall functionality stop to work as I want.

 

Any ideas?

I need a solution

Hello,

 

I need to delay outbound message delivery based on a condition (message size bigger than x MB) until a specific time of the day.

I was not able to find something relevant in the "action" field of the "content filtering" policies.

 

Is this possible using Symantec Messaging Gateway? and how?

SMG10.5.2 Content Email Violation Issue

Greetings,

 

I have created an Content Email Policy that blocks an Email if the sender domain name contains a string from a defined dictionary. This is called Third Party Mails.

In that dictionary I have added commercial domains such as gmail.com and hotmail.com.

I have also created a Policy Group that contains my manegment and admins (including myself). This is called VIP.

 

In the content policy "Third party Email" I did not add the VIP group, only default is checked.

This means I should be able to recieve emails from hotmail and gmail.

 

I do recieve mails from hotmail, but the ones from gmail gets deleted. The verdict is "System deniend email address or domain, Content Filtering Violation: Third Party Mails"

 

How do I resolve this issue?

Everyday I received several alert stating the following:

Can someone suggest a way to create a rule to block all email comming from a domain that contains "austpost".  for instance:block all emails that contain "austpost". or *@*austpost*

My domain in SPAM

I need a solution

Hello everyone

My problem is that emails sent from my domain, if sent to another email microsoft are categorized as SPAM.

I contacted support microsoft and they told me that my domain is in your blacklist, but we never did spam, we use email only to contact our customers.

I phoned customer service symantec but I have been able to help.

Can you tell me how to fix it.
