Upgrading SBG 9.0.1 to SMG 10.5.3-4

I need a solution

Hi,

I know I cannot upgrade directly from SBG 9.0.1 to SMG 10.5.3-4. So I create a new VM install SMG 10.5.3-4 on it with dummy values then take full backup from SBG 9.0.1 and perform full restore on SMG 10.5.3-4 but i face the following issue.

"Error during database restore. Please check the Control Centre log file for details."

Hi,

We are preparing to deploy SMG in our organisation. We installed two virtual SMG scanners and one control centre. The configuration was straight forward, and it didn't take long to get everything including recipient verification working using directory integration and subaddressing.

Once everything is was working, we upgraded to 10.5.3-4. After testing everything, we noticed that subaddressing (we use the '-' character) was broken. After investing a full day to double check everything, we found that subaddressing using '+' worked. It didn't take long to find this article which said that this had been a problem which was now solved.

Despite what this aritcle sais, it appears as though this issue is back. We don't want to use '+' for subaddressing because the input validation of too many websites prevents you from using addresses containing a '+'.

Question: Does anyone else running 10.5.3-4 have this issue? If so, is there a workaround?

Any idea what file should be backup and how long would it takes?

The same for restoration....

 

In the KB listed below but which one is most important? Can we use asterick to backup all?

 

  • /data/logs/scanner/audit_bmengine_log*

  • /data/logs/scanner/audit_mte_log*

  • /data/logs/scanner/audit_mta_log*

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

DMARC support with SMG

I need a solution

We are currently running SMG 10.5.2-3 with intention to move to 10.5.3-4.  I have seen there is some support for DMARC with Symantec products -but I haven't seen where support for this is available with the current versions of SMG. 

Can anyone shed some additional light on DMARC support through SMG  and if you have any experience using DMARC please let me know your experiences with it.

Distinguish policy for internal users

Hi all 
Is it possible to differentiate a policy to handle message that come from inside (so for internal users in AD) in a different way from the message that come from outside the email organization? 

For example, the internal domain is acme.com and I want the messages sent from my internal network (from my users, between them or outside) are hold in the quarantine when the messages are marked as spam, while I want the messages that come from outside the network are deleted when are marked as spam. 

Is it possible to do this?

Hi guys
I have an interesting one.
In the MAL we are seeing messages being aborted and aborted (timeout limit exceeded). Making reference to http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?pag... we made all the changes suggested. Still got the error. Maillog showing Encryption Alert (21) .
Call logged with Symantec (07650880) suggested we upgrade to the latest 10.5.3-4, so we did this. We then noticed messages being aborted, but on the 2nd re-try it would deliver. After about 2 days It started showing messages aborted, and then instead of the deliver message normal on the 2nd attempt, we just see aborted message (timeout limit exceeded). Interesting....
After I rebooted all the scanners, it started working again after a few hours. for about  day. Where we saw the same.
We are only this with mails using TLS and sending PDF attachments, no attachments and it works 100! Funny thing is, when we disable TLS, we still see the same as described above. Message being aborted, delivers on retry.
TCP timeout is set at 90 seconds (yes, that is allot)
Max file size is set to 10mb (company policy)

I'm asking the forum because I'm at a lost. I'm receiving awesome support from Symantec, but we are still unable to solve the issue at hand. Was thinking someone out must off encountered this before.
Please feel free to ask any additional questions, will try and supply the answers.

Since upgrading to 10.5.3-4, I get errors in the log similar to this:

This link http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH225834 states "errors can be safely ignored and do not affect mail processing"

 

any idea when this issue will be resolved?

Symantec BrightMail blocking IPs

Hi,

Windows Live SNDS reports me that two IPs of my dedicated server are in Symantec BrightMail block-list.

I use the IP Reputation Investigation page  but nothing appens since 5 days.

I read in an other topic that you advice to contact Symatec support, but they required a valid product name and version, and nothing about Symantec BrightMail !

Do you know how to contact them ?

I need a solution

We are using Symantec Messaging Gateway running on 10.5.2 with a CC and scanner. We mainly use this server for Outbound. We are facing issue in delivering outbound emails when users are sending bulk mails. Mails are getting stuck in delivery queue for few mins to couple of hours and rest of the emails are delivered with delay. This issue is mainly happening when bulk emais have large attachments. We are unable to find the root cause of this issue even we worked with symantec techinicians.

I wanted to know if there any possiblity to exempt a mail from Virus scanning based on source IP / Any string or flag in the message / specific sender? or How can we know the capacity of the server to handle the mails like how much data it can handle per hour like 8 GB or 10 Gb etc. Below are our server details.

Model : 8380

Processor Type : Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5540 @ 2.53Ghz (2)

Processor Cores : 16

Total Memory : 8GB

Disc : 836.62 GB

Hello,

I need to know what is the queue size of the Symantec Messaging Gateway appliance. 

Model Number:    8340
System CPU(s):   Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU G850 @ 2.90GHz
CPU Cores:       2
Memory (MB):     4096
Disk Size (GB):  465

I see in the advanced settings that the Maximum number of message in delivery queue is 150000.

What I am searching for is the size in MB (or GB) for the queue.

Hi Team,

we are using Symantec messaging gateway V10.0.3-3 @ Dell appliance 8340. SMG Configured as Control center + Scanner and scan Inbound + outbound mail traffic.

We are having two Mail servers in the same Domain name (xyz.com). How to configure LDAP Directory data integration to achive the below our equirement using SMG.

1. Any mail received to SMG, SMG check the mail ID in our AD LDAP server. If Mail ID available in LDAP server, the mail will be deliver to the mail Server 1

2. If Mail ID not available in LDAP server, the Mail will be deliver to the Mail server 2

Pls help us..

Bounce Attack and InBound filtering only

I need a solution

I've a problem of Bounce Attack with a lot of NDR email messaging arriving and being delivered.

I'd like to use this solution www.symantec.com/docs/HOWTO53629 but I think that it only works if we use SMG with OutBound Filtering features, is that correct?

At the moment we're in the following situation, so I think that is not appliable...

Do I need to put the SMG in "Inbound and outbound mail filtering" in order to achieve the desired result?
